Jonathan Browns lives and works in Ottawa.
He has a background as an artist, conservator, cultural planner and curator.
His artwork reflects on systems of dehumanization, the voice of the individual and personal stories. Art installations and performances utilize repetition, monotony and slowness of movement. Curatorial projects combine historical and contemporary artworks and artifacts, focusing on themes of place, identity and psychic spaces.
Trained as a conservator, he has a specialization in the care of site-specific sculptures and preventive approaches to the care of fine art collections. Conservation internships included Pierpont Morgan Library in New York and the Canadian Conservation Institute in Ottawa. Currently a Cultural Planner at the City of Ottawa, Jonathan Browns manages the Fine Art Collection, through the purchase, exhibition and promotion of artists and their work.
