Cultural Planner - Collections

City of Ottawa, Ottawa

Manage the permanent collection of artworks that includes site specific commissions, exhibitions,

and municipal art rental collection. Long term care and conservation of percent for art commissions.

Organize, curate and design exhibitions featuring the City collection. Art consultant, promote and

select artworks for municipal staff, the Mayor and Council. Develop and monitor the short and long

term financial and operational plans including conservation plans and art acquisition allocations.

Organizing and supervising peer assessed juries. Act as liaison and resource to corporate

management teams, capital project teams, elected representatives, internal and external contacts,

the media and the public.

 

1999 – 2001

Collections Manager and Curator

Ottawa Art Gallery, Ottawa

Collections Manager and Curator of Firestone Collection of Canadian Art, a historical and modern

fine art collection. Curator of exhibitions, research and write scholarly publications including showcasing

works of Canadian and international artists through solo and group exhibitions. Responsible

for care of collection including registration, current conservation standards involving storage and

installation, loans and shipping of artwork from artists and institutions nationally and internationally,

visual documentation, copyright and archival information pertaining to the collection.

 

1998-1999

Conservator

McWilliams Conservation, Ottawa

Conservator assisting in the repair of artworks and archival material from museum, institution and

private collections. Repair of 2,800 blueprints from the House of Commons (c. 1916-1960) as part

of a contract with the Canadian Conservation Institute, relining of maps, recovery of water damaged

school archival documents, co-developed workshop and manual on emergency/disaster planning.

 

1989-1995

Installation Technician/ Media Arts Administrative Assistant

Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa

Specialized in the professional installation of contemporary art. Responsible for the handling,

packing and transportation of an art rental collection consisting of over 20,000 artworks throughout

Canada. Preparation of film and video production grant applications. General administrative support

to Program Officers. Preparation of artist’s application in the database and general administrative

organization for peer assessed jury.
